Is former Vice President Dick Cheney lobbying for Maryland’s marriage equality bill?
Delegate Wade Kach (R-Baltimore County) told the Baltimore Sun after he endorsed the measure on Thursday that he “received an offer” to talk with Cheney about the issue. The lawmaker said former Republican National Committee Chair Ken Mehlman and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg urged him to support the bill.
Cheney has publicly supported marriage for same-sex couples in 2009.
The Maryland House of Delegates is poised to vote on the marriage equality measure as early as this afternoon. The New Jersey Assembly on Thursday passed a similar bill, but Gov. Chris Christie has vowed to veto it. Washington Gov. Chris Gregoire on Monday signed legislation that will allow gays and lesbians to marry in her state.
